A Note About Responsible Reading
In a library that serves students ranging in ages from ten to fourteen, a wide variety of materials is needed. What is interesting and appropriate for eighth graders may not be interesting or appropriate for sixth graders and vice versa. If you check out a book that makes you or your parents uncomfortable, please return it and choose another book. Always feel free to contact us if you have questions or comments.

Collection Policy
The JFHMS library carefully selects books and resources to enhance the collection. Books and resources are selected based on reviews and recommendations from School Library Journal, Kirkus, Booklist, Horn Book, New York Times Book review, Publishers Weekly, Common Sense Media and publisher information. Books are also selected based on input from other school librarians, RCPS department heads, and other professional learning communities. The library seeks student input when adding books to the library collection (see Mrs. Sonifrank to recommend a book). You may fill out the form online as well. The JFHMS library serves students ages 10-14, and therefore has a diverse collection to appeal to a variety of ages and maturity levels. Reading is a free choice, and the JFHMS collection reflects the diversity of its patrons. Additionally, the J. Frank Hillyard library consults the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights when selecting library materials.
Donations Policy
The JFHMS library will gladly accept donated materials, however, donated materials will be added to the library at the discretion of the school librarian. Donations will be considered for the collection based on need and the collection policy above. While we appreciate donations, we will not notify donors regarding items being added to the collection.
